Transfer Update

Unfortunately it looks more likely that Danny Murphy will be joining London rivals Spurs. Danny hasn't been playing recently and the club said he had "Family Problems". While this might be entirely true, it seems suspicious. It will be a great shame for us as Danny has been a key to our squad and is a damn shame if he moves, especially to a club that he rejected in August 2004.

In other club transfer news, it may be that if Danny does go to Spurs, we could get Anthony Gardener in a swao deal plus cash. Not really worthwhile in my opinion, but you never know. Speculation is still ripe about Lee Bowyer signing for us today and I think he will be a good replacement if Danny does leave SE7.

Norwich have signed JJ on a loan until the end of the season. The striker has appeared a handful of times this season but will find it good to help with Norwich's promotion challenge. Good luck to him!

Yes, well I am calling this now as we have a huge chance to reach the quarters of the prestigious FA Cup. We have been drawn at home to Brentford in the 5th round. Last year we went out to Leicster at this stage but I am hopeful this won't happen again. Should be a good cup tie

Match Report: Charlton 2 - 1 Leyton Orient

A highly anticipated match throughout the UK with stories covering sports pages and inserts about Orient's week of preparations for their 2nd FA Cup outing to a Premiership Club, the first 3 weeks ago when they beat Fulham.

The atomosphere today was great, the fans wouldn't stop singing in the home ends. Curbs had shouted out through the website and programme today for us to get behind the lads, and we certainly responded.

As Marcus Bent was cup tied, Curbs went back to 4-4-2 with Bartlett back. An easy match we thought it would be, especially when the man who sent the Palace down, Jonothan Fortune, decided to head the ball into Orient's net 7 minutes into the game. A great start which enthralled the fans even more!

But we seemed to go to sleep and despite many attempts, the match was boring! The only thing keeping me awake was the constant chants of "Red Army" and "CAFC".

Into the second half and 8 minutes in, we let it slip with an Orient player finding space at the edge of our box to slot home. Unfortunately, Myhre's touch was not enough to stop the shot from finishing in the back of our net.

That was it, either Orient would win or it would go to a replay, they were all over us! Curbs did a triple sub with about 30 mins left, bringing on Smertin for Kishishev, Thomas for Hughes and Bothroyd for Bartlett. This raised the fans spirits and the atmosphere raised again. It was unreal the passion us fans showed today!

Our frustration finally paid off when we were awarded a free kick outside the area in the first minute of the three added on. Perfect Bothroyd free kick range! And what does he do? Rifles it into the back of the net via a slight deflection from the keeper. We had won it! The crowd went wild, J block mental! Songs of que cera and us cheering the Orient off the pitch rung around SE7. We had done it. A great match, bring on the 5th Round.

Man of the Match:Darren Ambrose

England drawn in group E for Euro 2008 qualifiers!

The draw has taken place, England have been drawn in group E with:
Croatia
Russia
Israel
Estonia
Macedonia
Andorra

A pretty easy group but we should look out for Russia. England's new manager should have a smooth ride to Euro 2008

JJ talks to Treviso

JJ! Arrrgh JJ! Yes that are the crys that are often heard from the stands at the Valley when Jonatan Johansson makes an appearance but these crys might not be heard for much longer as it has been revealed that we have given permission to Serie A club Treviso to speak to the striker. Good luck to the man but why hasn't anyone spoken to Jeffers! Well, no surprise really!!

Deano leaves after 6 years!

Dean Kiely has left Charlton to joing Portsmouth today after 6 years of service for the mighty Addicks. Despite falling out of favour, Deano will always be remembered for some of his amazing performances which meant we finished 7th in 2003/2004 in the league, his penalty save against the Palace last season as well as the many chants of "Deano whats the score, Deano Deano whats the score" to which he always responded.

It will be good for the man to have a fresh start and hopefully use the little left of his career to his full potential and I wish him well in the future.

One last time - DEANO DEANO DEANO DEANO!

Match Report: Chelsea 1 - 1 Charlton

The last time the Mighty Addicks from SE7 visited Stamford Bridge, we came away with a penalty shootout victory, a match that some said had the tension and the magic of the Sunderland Playoff final. It was a great night to be a Charlton fan. But following that, it seemed that would be the last 'good' night in a long time. The following weeks and months after that famous victory seemed to have been some of the lowest in a long time at Charlton, but luckily the recent form seems to be brightening up.

The first match after Marcus Bent signed for the club, he found himself on the bench with Bartlett making way for Ambrose and Charlton switching back to their 4-5-1 formation. Unfortunately for Charlton, the afternoon looked dark when Eidur Gudjohnsen capitalised on a Thomas Myhre mistake and hit the ball against the crossbar, the referee had given it, it had passed the line despite Radostin Kishishev's best efforts. But Charlton gave it all they got which is often what you see when the team goes to Chelsea. Some great attacks and a strong defence gave the lads confidence. Marcus Bent was to make his debut on the 39th minute when Dennis Rommedahl was subbed off. What a sub that was to be.

15 minutes into the second half, Darren Ambrose shook off a Chelsea player to see Marcus running into the box to greet his cross with a backwards header, confusing the Chelsea defence and looping over Petr Cech's head! We had did it, equaled the match.

Further attacks from both sides resulted in good saves from both keepers, with Chelsea having a Lampard shot deflected away by Myhre late into the game where the worlds greatest Rich Bitch Roman Abramovich was seen to be having fits of tension when the ex-Hammer unleashed his shot. A late sending off of Carvalho, a good decision by the ref, as he had been playing dirty was all to result in the final few minutes and Charlton had held on to be the first team this season to take points from Chelsea at home in the Premiership.

As Claudio Ranieri once said in his missable English Accent "We are ze Bogey Team". You're right there, Claudio!

Postponed fixtures now rescheduled

The home match against Liverpool has been rescheduled by the FA to Wednesday February the 8th and the Away match against Newcastle Wednesday February the 22nd. Good planning there by the FA!
Oh it seems Scally has paid us a visit - check the chat box at the right hand side of this page!

We are Bent Again! Marcus about to sign!

Yes another Bent player to add to the team! Well of the Marcus type. So Darren will have to add a "D" infront of the Bent on his shirt. Everton striker Marcus Bent is in London today to discuss personal terms and complete a medical after transfer talks were agreed for £2.0 million (rising to 2.5). After a flurry of clubs in his career, the 27-year-old striker Marcus will hopefully add a worthy and long term addition to the team partnering Darren upfront. But, is this the end for JJ, Kevin Lisbie, Shaun Bartlett and surely Francis Jeffers? Only time will tell!

Bent number 2?

So have we or haven't we?! According to netaddicks in THIS article, we have signed Marcus Bent. Seems a bit odd as no other news channels seem to have reported it, surely it would be in breaking news on Sky Sports News on TV?! Also an article on Everton.com says we have signed him, but click on the homepage there is nothing. A bit suspect if you ask me!

In other news, Jason Euell is talking personal terms after Charlton agreed a fee thought to be of around £1.5million. Sad if you ask me as I think Euell was a star at The Valley and has scored goals that I will remember, the 4-2 against Chelsea on Boxing Day 2003. Cheers for the memories Jase!

Match Report: Charlton 2 - 0 Birmingham

Back to back Premiership home wins at The Valley. You don't hear that often! Well that was what was ringing around the homeground of the Addicks come 16:45 today! Some more points in the bag. Notably Smertin and Murphy were dropped, with the latter still rumoured to be leaving SE7 in this transfer window. A shaky start for Charlton with Birmingham seeming to be all over us, we were rewarded with a corner which Rommedahl took and it met the head of Brian Hughes! We were one nil up! I had a feeling this was going to be a great day. It stayed like this, despite much Birmingham pressure, until 92. The 4th official had added on 3 minutes injury time, and up steps Darren Bent who took a great pass from Bryan Hughes, shrugged off Mario Melchiot, blasts it into the back of the net! Great win and a great day, the fans went wild! Chrissy Powell has his tunnel jump again, and we have 3 points in the bag!

Man Of The Match:Thomas Myhre

Charlton will get their cheeriO's

Cheesy headline but what the hell. In theory we have been blessed from above. Today we were drawn at home against Premiership beaters from League 2 Leyton Orient. When I say Premiership beaters I refer to the fact they beat Fulham on Sunday in the cup, something we need to keep our nerve about, it's only another London Derby, it's only Orient, it's only the 4th round (FOURTH ROUND!!!!). Yes maybe we will have the luck of the draw like last year, when we should have beaten Leicester, in this years cup and we could maybe be that team that walks out next to another at Wembley in May. God I need a reality check!

Match Report: Sheffield W 2 - 4 Charlton

A win to lift the spirits and get the lads back to winning ways was granted at Hillsborough today when Charlton put on a winning performance against Sheffield Wednesday (on a Saturday! HAHAHA!) Dennis Rommedahl struck in the 13th to give the Addicks a great start and put them ahead. Unfortunately, Wednesday struck back on the 16th through Paul Heckingbottom to give us a little shock. But calmly and cooly, Matt Holland scored his first ever FA Cup goal to put us back in the lead 10 minutes later. Rommedahl hadn't finished there and scored another just before half time after an unselfish piece of play from Darren Bent to set him up for the shot.

On the 61st, Heckingbottom gave Wednesday a bit of hope to get a replay or even the win with a header to make it 3-2 but just before the final whistle, Darren Bent got his reward after catching the defence asleep to send the Addicks into the 4th round with a 4-2 win! Great lads, keep it up!

As most readers know, I do like to follow Charlton away when I can, but today I really couldn't be bothered to travel up to Sheffield and back for the FA Cup match. So I decided to get my football fix by going to see Championship meet Premiership at Watford's Vicarage Road Ground. It was Watford V Bolton. Myself and my mate Chris disliking Bolton strongly since their 1-0 win at The Valley in October were hoping of a cup upset and Watford going through to the 4th round. It was wierd going to a club in the Championship, a ground so different to The Valley, or in fact any ground I have been too, even Pompey! We got seats in their equivalent of the North Stand where the singing went on. Good view and pre match build up, the atmosphere was pumping despite a surprisingly 3/4 full stadia.

Unfortunately for Watford, due to sloppy play from midfield and defence, they went 1-0 down from a weak shot from Jared Borgetti. That goal seemed to give Watford a kick up the backside and a couple of shots narrowly missed for them up the other end. Again due to slack defence from The Hornets, Stelios Giannakopoulos scored again to put the Premiership high riders 2-0 up. This remained until half time.

Watford's manager seemed to give a great half time team talk as Watford came out on fire. Lots of shots and attempts really should have put Watford back in the game, but a strong Bolton defence and lots of fannying around with the ball instead of shooting from Watford meant nothing came from it. Instead, Bolton took it upon themselves to spoil any comeback with another goal, this time from Vaz Te. The game was well and truely wrapped up for them.

A great and strange match for me to watch, but one thing that was great to see was Anthony McNamee who had the pace and skill surely to be good enough in the Premiership. A great little player who reminded me of what Jamal Campbell-Ryce was when he played for us Addicks.

Murphy Rumours

Latest Newspaper reports show that apparently Danny Murphy is on the hit list of Manchester City and Newcastle United. Unfortunately for The Addicks, despite Curbs rubbishing the rumours, it has unsettled Murphy. He needs to be on top shape for the club come Saturday when we play Sheffield Wednesday in the cup. I just pray and hope, as I'm sure many fans will, that Charlton don't give into deals of money or swap deals (Bowyer rumoured) that will rid the Club of one of the biggest names in history who have played in the red of Charlton and probably scupper our chances of Europe. I mean Bowyer or Murphy, you decide. I hope you choose the latter!

Match Report: Everton 3 - 1 Charlton

Having seen a great New Years Eve performance on Saturday, the perfect way to celebrate the New Year, it just seems crazy we lost 3-1 today to premiership strugglers, Everton. With Dennis Rommedahl conceding a penalty early on, which the commentary said should have been sent off, we went a goal behind, but hit back relitively quickly with Matt Holland scoring his first of the season. Just before half time, we went behind again with Tim Cahill scoring. A bad way to go into half time, but with only one goal behind, we had a chance. This chance was not taken. Everton scored again in the second half and had a fourth disallowed. Misses late on by Lisbie, Ambrose and Bartlett could have got us back into the game, but it was a dissapointing loss for us, one we should have capitalised upon and we need to gain confidence by beating Wednesday in the cup next week and then beating Birmingham at home the week after.

Match Report: Charlton 2 - 0 West Ham

A way to end the year on a high would be beating our London rivals West Ham United. It was a win needed greatly by the club for our league position and our supporters. Thankfully our prayers were answered! A team that had loads of passion on Boxing Day and were unlucky to lose against Arsenal came out again with their heads high trying to get something. A goal came from Shaun Bartlett in the 21st minute when a cross from Darren Bent was slid in from Shaun. A great goal and also great to see Shauny boy scoring again! Dennis Rommedahl nearly scored a second for the Addicks shortly after but was denyed by Carrol's hand. We had our heads held high going into half time. The second half was all ours and a great piece of play on the hour with a cross from Chris Powell onto the head of Darren Bent and into the back of the oppositions net. That was a goal to settle the match for us and more narrow misses could have easily meant that we could have won 5 or 6 nil. One hilarious moment of chanting from the fans to Graham Poll, the ref, when he made a dodgy decision was the chant "Oh Graham Poll, He's a F**king Arsehole, He's a F**king Arsehole, He's a F**king Arsehole" and he replied by laughing and waving back. Top bloke!
