THE Match Report: Newcastle Utd 0 - 0 Charlton

Another match, another point, at least not a defeat. After Wednesday night's victory over Bolton, a lot of us Addicks were hopeful that we may be able to pick up pace and get ourselves out of the relegation zone.

But that was not to be, Newcastle were all over us in the first half, a match which was televised on Prem Plus - and definately not worth the 8 quid - but a couple of chances did not result in anything for us.

We seemed to pick it up in the second half with Dennis Rommedahl and Darren Bent with near misses, but unfortunately we could get anything from the game, which ended 0-0. This really is getting worrying now.

Carling Cup Round 3

Oh my god, we actually won! we actually defied the odds, resisted pressure and beat Bolton. Now why can we only beat Bolton in competitive matches this season! Can we play them every week!

Now it is hard for me to write a match report solely on the views of pundits on Sky Sports News but from the impression they gave, Bolton were unlucky not to get anything from the match. But that is not the point, a Marcus Bent headed goal in the 17th minute was the difference between the two sides, and what a difference that made to all supporters of CAFC.

Not only are we still in the cup in which we have the biggest chance to win, we also have possibly turned a corner and can hopefully put our bad sgtart behind us. It is morale lifting not for just us, but also the players. The smiles on their faces at the final whistle was priceless, but from the sounds of things the fans went to hell and back while watching.

One unfortunate thing is that JT was stretchered off after a collision with a Trotter, lets hope he is ok.

Now lets keep the ball rolling and climb to heights in the Premiership that we are used to!

Writers View: Is there something wrong?

Well is there?

From my view in the Lower North what came to my eyes and attention was how good the build up play was, but then the final ball being relatively poor!

Also coming to my attention were the players lack of confidence to shoot at goal. True, in the first half Andy Reid hit a ferocious shot which forced a good save, but in the second half Reidy often had the ball in a better and more central area. But then he seemed to get nervous and then just pass it sideways!

I don't exactly know what this means. Maybe the press talk is true. Is there a rift in the dressing room? Maybe the players aren't being trained properly? Although I highly doubt the latter.

However there is one thing for sure....Something isn't right within Charlton Atheltic FC!

THE Match Report: Charlton 0 - 0 Watford

What the heck is going on!? A match where we, as a so called established Premiership side, should definately win proved a much tougher challenge than it necessarily needed to be.

We started the match well with a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Jerome Thomas starting his first competitive match since returning from injury which was promising, and almost straight away, Dennis Rommedahl had a clear path at goal but decided to take it inside and then have his shot blocked. Andy Reid looked promising with a great shot and a free kick but the deadlock was still not broken at the break.

Again in the second, we had dominance, but Watford missed a sitter which clearly could have won the match. There really isn't much else to say about the match. Chris Powell got a great reception when he entered the field of play with 5 minutes to go.

One great thing about Chrissy is that he obviously keeps Charlton's faithful close to his heart. As usual he was the last player to leave the Valley pitch, cue the "ooooooooooooooooooooooo's", the tunnel stayed long and out runs the Legend to recreate his infamous tunnel jump once again.

THE Match Report: Fulham 2 - 1 Charlton

We're back and running at TalkCAFC but lets see what has happened while we've been offline. Well nothing much except that we're 20th in the league with only one win. Tragic.

But anyway tonights match was one I was looking forward to for a long time, well ever since I got a job where I have to work most Saturdays, a Monday night match (a London Derby) seemed perfect to me.

Entering the seating area and seeing Fulham's flash new LCD advertising boards (why do they need them?!) the adrenaline started pumping, the players out on the pitch and the match about to begin. The first half was mainly Charlton, with Andy Reid going ever so close, and Rommedahl just shooting over the bar. Despite not having a goal advantage, we surely had a mental advantage over the home side going into the break.

Our run seemed to continue in the first 10 or so minutes in the second, and then the point of the match that changed the game happened. Cue Claus Jensen, the player that left The Valley for Craven Cottage 2 years ago.

In 5 minutes of madness, Charlton managed to give away two goals and Fulham found themselves with an undeserving lead. But one of the goals was from the former Addick. I think I had worked out that both of the goals were the home side's 2nd and 3rd attempts at Carson's net.

It had to be over, but about 10 minutes from time, a scuffle in the box resulted in pretty much every player protesting, except Darren Bent who kept his cool and got us a goal back, but it ended up being a consolation. It finished with us still rooted to the bottom of the table with 3 points, and Fulham walking away with another 3.

We really need the victory at home to Watford this Saturday, otherwise who knows what will happen.
